UPDATE--TOMAH TEACHERS KILLED IN CAR-TRAIN ACCIDENT

According to the Tomah State Patrol Headquarters, Trooper, Cindy Tester, investigated the fatal accident at Keichinger Rd. near Camp Douglas, which took the lives of two Tomah Teachers this past Wednesday, August 23rd, 2000.

Jennifer K. Marks, 25, of Fall Creek, Wi and Debra A. Jensen, 45, of Tomah, Wi, were on their way to the Oakdale school when the Marks car was struck by an eastbound Amtrak Empire Builder train about 1:40 p.m.

According to witnesses: Marks stopped prior to the railroad tracks, then continued and then stopped on the tracks. Vehicle was struck by an Amtract train that was eastbound reported the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Jennifer Marks graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire this spring, with a master's degree in speech pathology, and was starting her first teaching job with the Tomah Area School District.

Debra Jensen, has been teaching in the Tomah School System since 1991. She is survived by her husband Rodney and their five children.

Tony Hinden, Tomah School Superintendent said, "This is a terrible tragedy effecting all of us very deeply. Our sympathies go out to the families of the victims"
