Diane M. Stanek, 59, of Melvina, WI, passed away on Saturday, April 30, 2005, at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse, WI. She was born on July 7, 1945, to Lawrence and Irene (Ornes) Miller in Melvina, WI. On November 7, 1964, she married Joseph R. Stanek at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cashton, WI.
Diane was employed as a cook at the Cashton Public Schools for twenty years. Her greatest joy was her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed auctions, antiquing and attending Gold Rush Days with her daughter. Diane was a loving, generous and selfless woman, who will be missed greatly by everyone who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Joe; two sons, Joe Frank (Linda) Stanek of Bartlesville, OK, and Jay (Patty) Stanek of Larsen, WI; one daughter, Joy (David) Stoleson of Hampton, MN; her mother, Irene Mitchell of Cashton, WI; four brothers, Rev. Lloyd (Jan) Miller of Eureka, SD, Dennis (Karen) Miller of Cedar Rapids, IA, Curtis (Terry) Miller of Monument, CO, Arne (Sue) Miller of Rock Hill, SC; three sisters, Connie (Dave Schultz) Miller of Onalaska, WI, Marilyn (Richard) Krause of Milton, WI, and Lori (Leonard Gambrell) Miller of Las Cruces, NM; four grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her father Lawrence; stepfather, Lester Mitchell; two children, Jill Mary and Judson James Stanek; her father and mother-in-law, Frank and Lucille Stanek; and one brother-in-law, James Stanek.
Funeral services are planned for Thursday, May 5, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cashton. Rev. Eric Berns and Rev. Lloyd Miller will officiate. A private family burial will follow later in the Melvina Cemetery in Melvina, WI. Family and friends are invited for visitation on Wednesday, May 3, 2005, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton. Visitation will continue from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home on Thursday. The Torkelson Funeral Home in Cashton is assisting the family with arrangements.
