CYBERSPACE REPORT
By Bill Weber

Hi! I am back writing articles. A week ago I stopped by the Tomah Newspapers office and had a nice talk with their publisher, John Kenny, regarding writing a column on the Internet and World Wide Web. As you can see, John was agreeable to the suggestion, in fact he even surprised me in saying that this would fit in with a important event that their Newspapers would be commencing in the coming weeks.

The next few years will see a rapid growth of the Internet and the World Wide Web. WEB pages will be as familiar to people as TV programs are today. The big difference being is that the Internet and WEB pages offer interaction between sender and receiver. Today most schools are teaching their students the fundamentals of SURFING THE WEB.

The purpose of this column is to encourage more of you to venture into this interesting and exciting aspect of this new age.

I officially logged onto the Internet just a bit over a year ago. Ask almost anyone who has "surfed the WEB" and in most cases you will find real interest and enthusiasm.

So shall we get started. For those of you who are already adept at "surfing" the WEB please bear with me as I bring some info. to the beginners. . Okay let's go directly to WEB pages for beginners. There are a large number of WEB pages for beginners I found that the following are very well done WEB sites:

Scott Cottingham. has one called Internet101 at the following address:
http://www2.famvid.com/i101/terms.html
This is one of the better WEB sites I have seen for the beginner. Here is what Scott had to say, "There were already plenty of web sites devoted to the technical aspects of using the Internet. I decided to create a site for those who wanted to know just the basics!"

Another very well done WEB site is one put out by, Ruby Yeh. called FolksOnline at http://www.folksonline.com/
In her words: "We are all here because we share in the FolksOnline vision and are having a lot of fun doing what we love to do. My wish and our goal is for FolksOnline to inspire and help others take on the challenge and benefits of the Internet to reach their own dreams and do what they love to do." A great site and it even pays for articles and contributions.

As you probably know Century Telephone is in the process of buying PTI Communications which serves the Tomah and Warrens area. The final details should be pretty well worked out in the next few months. More details in this column and at my WEB site as details become available. You might want to visit their WEB page at:

It is hoped that the readers of this column will contribute by sending suggestions, their favorite WEB sites or anything else they might wish to contribute. Contact me at Tomah Newspapers Tomah, WI or 27434 Killdeer Ave, Wilton WI or e-mail me at solar10a@centuryinter.net. It has been nice visiting with you.
