THE STATE RACE FOR STATE SCHOOLS SUPERINTENDENT TOO CLOSE TO CALL, according to a mid-March poll, has entered a crucial stage. WEAC, the largest state teacher's union, launched its first ad on March 21 and charged that a business linked to Linda Cross has a poor record of paying business taxes.
On March 23, Cross and Burmaster met in their one and only statewide televised debate. The "We The People/Wisconsin'' debate featured questions from citizens and educators.
Elizabeth Burmaster's campaign is due to begin its ad blitz early the week of March 26. The election is April 3, 2001

THIS WAS A VERY INTERESTING DEBATE AND I WOULD RECOMMEND READING IT PRIOR TO GOING TO THE VOTING BOOTH ON TUESDAY APRIL 3rd, 2001. SOME VERY GOOD QUESTIONS WERE ASKED.

I read the full copy of the Wisconsin State Televison debate report and must say that it was a lot of reading but I did get a better idea of the thinking and programs of each candidate.

Originally I leaned toward supporting Elizabeth Burmaster, as I felt she had more experience in the field of administration. But after reading the report I find myself thinking that Linda Cross represent more of my thinking in the field of education than does Ms. Burmaster.

March 30th, 2001.

As of this morning I still have not decided who to vote for, both candidates have certain points of view that I feel will make them good State Supt. of Schools. I still have to do a bit more study and research but will try and make a decision by Monday afternoon. If I do, I will post it here early Monday morning April 3rd.

April 3rd 2001

Well the day of decision is here. In a few more hours I along with many of the rest of you will be going to the polls. In talking with people over the weekend it seems that we are going to have a very close election. Something on the order of the Presidential election of last Novmeber, only this time there is no Electrol College or U.S. Supreme Court to make the final decision.

As I said earlier, I find that both candidates for the position of State Supt. have qualities that I like. However after much thinking I have reached this conclusion:

Although I think that Elizabeth Burmaster, has many qualities that would make for a good Suptendint of Schools, I feel that she is captive of the Wisconsin Teachers Union, which has, in many respects, been responsible for the mess we find our public schools in today.

I feel that Linda Cross, will give a breath of fresh air in her more open approach to the educational needs, being more inovative and willing to try new approaches in providing quality education without overburdening the tax payers. (Voucher, School Choice, Charter Schools, Apprentice training for Sophmore and Senior High Students, and reeognizing that there are many qualified teachers out there that may not necessarily have a bachlor degree in the field of education.

There I have said my piece for what it may be worth.

REMEMBER WHETHER NATIONAL OR LOCAL ELECTIONS YOUR VOTE IS IMPORTANT.
