LUCILE HEMMERLY, TOMAH, SENT THIS E-MAIL OCT. 2nd, 2001

Hi Bill-----Have been meaning to write and tell you how much I like your web page. I tune it in often.

About terrorism---these are my thoughts.

I don't want to see or hear of any more death or destruction either but from what I have read and watched on TV, we are not dealing with people who negotiate their actions. They are cold-blooded killers who don't seem to have to have a reason for their killing sprees-- bullies. They need to be held responsible for their actions. I believe that Pres. Bush is right when he says negotiation is not the priority here.

Do you believe we could trust them to negotiate and be trustworthy? I am not willing to let them lull us to sleep again. I would call Bush's removal of their funding a type of negotiation but I will not be surprised to hear how they are getting around this tactic. When we realize that these are people who are taught to gouge the eyes of any American in their fight to obtain their ungodly goals[which was probably the plight of those pilots aboard the attacked planes] in my estimation we are no longer dealing with people who deserve to be called humans.

If Pres. Bush decides that our military needs to act---I am saying yes, I,as an American am behind him every step of the way.

Another thought---I believe that we have been so kind in our America to everyone --even the criminal--- that we now need to fear most the terrorists who live here and blend into our neighborhoods across the country. If there could be a lesson from all this tragedy, one might be that it is time to tighten the screws on illegal happenings--not just slap the fingers because we can't detain someone long enough to get to the bottom of his action.

Again I believe as Pres. Bush seems to believe--that we must get to the source of this terrrorism and not JUST put our arms around those survivors and only hope and pray that it will all go away.

Again Bill, thanks for doing such a good job with your web page and keep up the fine work. Sincerely, Lucile Hemerley

SOME THOUGHTS TO PONDER

Vacation

On This Lovely Fall Day

It was 5:30pm, yesterday,on our way home from the Visitation for Edwin Lanier, that Thema had dropped me off, on Killdeer Ave, about a mile from home, for part of my daily walk. It was a beautiful fall day.

Three days ago, Ed Lanier, too was also able to look forth and see the beauty about him. A half hour ago, I viewed him lying dead and cold in his casket while hundreds of friends and relatives walked by to pay their last respects and extend their condoloneces to the members of his famuily.

As I walked along the roadway, with the smell and beauty of fall in the air. I wondered why a dread disease such as cancer, is allowed to take down a person, such as Ed? Then a gust of wind causes a small hailstorm of acorns to fall. Next spring a few of those hundreds of acrons will become towering oak trees by the year 2100.
Life does go on.

My thoughts then turn to the e-mail that I received from, Lucile Hemerly, that morning in which she expressed her feeling regarding the act of terrorism that hit our Nation on Sept 11th 2001. She writes, see above for full text of her e-mail:
"If Pres. Bush decides that our military needs to act---I am saying yes, I,as an American am behind him every step of the way."

HOW DO WE DEFINE TERRORISM:

_________________________________________________________________________________________ The Merriam-Webster Dictionary 1994 defines:
terrorism \ter-er-i-zem\ n : the systematic use of terror esp. as a means of coercion terrorist \-ist\ adj or n.
terror \ter-er\ n 1 : a state of intense fear : fright 2 : one that inspires fear syn panic, consternation, dread, alarm, dismay, horror, trepidation
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our society as well as much of the rest of the worlds society, depends largely upon its power to govern by instilling a subtle form of terror upon its citizens. Today here in America, the building of "jail houses" far exceeds any other time in our history. The purpose of "jail houses" is a form of "terror control" of our citizens. Either you shape up and abide by the laws or off to jail you go.

Then we extend this warning to other nations. Since we have the most high tech weapons there are few nations that are willing to challenge our nations goal of world domination.

Our nation since the end of world war two has not signed a peace treaty with either Japan or Germany and we still have occupation troops in those two countries, now for over 50 years since the wars ended back in 1945. We still have an embargo of people trading with certain nations we do not agree with. Cuba our next door neighbor. We continually fly survellienc plans ove Irag, and forbid other nations to trade with them. Even in their needs for food and medical supplies.

These are a form of terror that makes it possible for others in the world to try to devise a way to counter that form of terror. Not having the wealth and power that our nations has they resort to that type of terror that they are able to deliver.

Going over to Afganastan and grabbing Omar bin Laden, and hanging him to a tree for the world to see is not going to stop terrorism. It is only going to lead to more terrorism.

The purpose of the Untied Nations is to be a mediator in world disputes among nations. A week long discussion with some resolutions have now been adopted. Go To:
UNITED NATIONS ACTION ON TERRORISM

This action by the United Nations is a hopeful sign. Let us hope that this world governing body can come up with a workable agreement that will stop world wide terrorism whether state sponsored or so called fanatic groups.

Perhaps Sept 11th is a the wake up call the world needs to realize that we are all brothers and sisters on this planet and let us try to love and help each other world wide with the same kind of strength and devotion we showed to the victims of the terror attact on this country.

The afternoon sun was sinking as I reached home and the beauty around, seemed like living in another world at another time and that death, violence and hatred was some far off yesterday. If we could get through the next few years without revenge and retaliation backed a United world wide policy, defining terrorism by all nations and then working to make the whole world better for all instead of just as few. Perhaps the sacrifices of those who died on Sept 11th, 2001 will be as great if not more than all the other sacrifices men and women have made through the ages for freedom from Fear (terrorism) and Want that the world has yet seen todate.

Pres. Bush, has the Congressional Okay at this time. to pursue the terrorist with all the power and vengence that the United States has, but then again he can also listen to his Secratary of State, Colin Powell, and cooperate with all the nations of the world through the United Nations and become one of the Outstanding Presidents of the United States in a world wide United Nations agreement to prevent further terrorism for any place on this planet.

We, as a Nation, can not go it alone or we will be right back where we are now.
An Eye for and Eye Forever and Ever.

Taliban Say Ready to Try Bin Laden on Proof
ISLAMABAD (Reuters) -

Afghanistans ruling Taliban are prepared to put Osama bin Laden on trial in an Afghan court if the United States provides solid evidence against him, Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Mullah Abdul Salam Zaeef said on Friday.

``We are prepared to try him, if America provides solid evidence of Osama bin Laden's involvement in attacks in New York and Washington,'' Zaeef told Reuters. Asked if the Taliban were prepared to allow a trial of bin Laden in another country, he said: ``We are willing to talk about that, but the first is that we must be given the evidence.''

Washington has vowed to hunt down bin Laden and punish his protectors. The Americans say the Saudi-born activist is their main suspect in the deadly September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon that left nearly 6,000 people killed or missing.

``If America is not satisfied with our trial of Osama, we are also ready to find another Islamic way of trying him,'' the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) quoted him as saying. When asked if the Taliban were ready to hand over bin Laden to the United States, Zaeef told AIP: ``This is a later thing, we cannot take any step that hurts our Islamic or Afghan dignity.''

Even as the Taliban stuck to their refusal to hand over a ''guest'' who has sought sanctuary within their borders, diplomatic and military maneuvers were closing in around the isolated puritanical movement. The Taliban might still have a few days' breathing space to change their minds on bin Laden. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld was visiting their northern neighbor Uzbekistan. His trip was shrouded in secrecy but was seen as a move to strengthen ties with a country that could provide a likely base for military strikes on the Taliban.

On a whirlwind dash, British Prime Minister Tony Blair (news - web sites) was due in Pakistan, Afghanistan's eastern neighbor and its only diplomatic ally, for four hours of confidence-building talks with a government that a day earlier dealt a body blow to the Taliban movement it helped to create. The United States has said it will not hand over evidence to the Taliban, but insists it has enough put him on trial.

Pakistan echoed that view on Thursday when its Foreign Ministry spokesman said that Islamabad had seen enough evidence for an indictment. AIP said Zaeef had again offered talks to the United States saying: ``War is nothing but pain and death, blood does not wash blood, negotiations are a good path and we can discuss all issues including Osama.'' Washington has said there is nothing to discuss.
