OAKDALE PATRONAGE REFUND (BREAKFAST), MILL BLUFF (FALL FOLIAGE FESTIVAL) AND OUR SONS BIRTHDAY (DINNER)

Saturday morning, October 5th 2001, started out as a cold crisp morning, with a bit of frost around, but not a real freeze in this area as had been perdicted. The Oakdale REC was having their annual Patronage refund breakfast starting at 9:00am and we try to go each year as it is nice to get a bit of a refund on the money you spent some years ago as well as meeting old friends over a breakfast of hot pancakes and sausages. Since the breakfast did not start until 9:am, I decided to can a few quarts of wild grape and apple juice, which, as a hot drink, really tastes good on a cold winter day.

Well like my wife Thema often says, You start these things and then we don't get started on time for what we intended to do? Guess what she was right, it was nearly 10:00am before we were on our way to Oakdale. What a beautiful day. We stopped along the way now and then and took some pictures of the colorfull fall folliage (see picture above). It was a bit after 10:15 when we arrived and already there were hundreds of people there getting their refund checks and enjoying the brekfast, the many displays and a little later a demonstration on the many things that can cause an outage on the power lines.

SCOTT BROOKMAN, LINEMAN/ENGINEER, FOR THE OAKDALE REC,

Sat100601

Demonstrates what often happens when snow gets on tree limbs and cause them
TO bend down and touch the high voltage line. Sometines only causing lights in your home to flicker other times causing the protection breakers to kick out. His demostration consisted of a number of incindents that cause the power to go off only temporily or for long periods of time. Wind, Ice, trees blown on the line, animals, such as squirrls, accidently making contect from pole to the line. The picture above is demmonstrating a tree limb contact. An interesting demonstration, Thanks Scott.

It was now a bit after 12 noon as we headed for Mill Bluff Park, about a few miles east of Oakdale on highway 16. We arrived just a few minutes to late to see the last Native American dance by a Lovely Young lady from Necedah, WI, Jarina Misener. citizen of the Sioux Nation, who had presented a number of Indian Dances for those in attendance at the (Friends For Mill Bluff Park), at their annual FALL LEAF FEATIVAL.
